Northeast Indiana Site Certification Program Unveiled
The Northeast Indiana Foundation and Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership have announced the establishment of a northeast Indiana-specific site certification program called "Certified Site Ready."  The Certified Site Ready program has been established in northeast Indiana to increase the region's inventory of development ready sites to best meet the needs of site selectors and prospect companies in today's highly competitive global site selection market. The unveiling of the Certified Site Ready program accompanies the announcement of northeast Indiana's first six certified sites.

Structural Composites' Diversification Paying Off
Several years ago, Structural Composites' co-owners Ken Baranowski and Jim Fearnow had a conversation about diversification which may now be providing the company with a second life following the RV industry's downturn which had previously been their primary industry.  However, Structural Composites decided to branch out beyond the RV Industry as early as 2002, providing housings for blowers and designing and testing prototypes for innovative coal car covers that they are now filling orders for. more

County OKs Funding for Business Incubator
Noble County government approved financial support Monday for the Region III-A Development District for a business incubator proposed for Avilla. The proposed Northeast Indiana Rural Business Development Center would be built near the S.R. 8 and S.R. 3 intersection. The business development center would focus on identifying, nurturing and graduating business start-ups and small businesses in northeast Indiana for the development of alternative energy and information technologies. more

Northeast Indiana Winery Helps Promote Indiana's Signature Wine
Satek Winery has been on the ground floor of the introduction of what has been billed as Indiana's signature wine, Traminette. A fragrant, floral white wine that pairs well with poultry, pork loin, seafood and Asian fare, Traminette comes from a Gewurztraminer hybrid grape that flourishes in Indiana and was introduced in late December 2009 by the Indiana Wine Grape Council. Satek Winery has been producing Traminette since 1996. more

Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership Honored with Six Economic Development Awards
The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership has been recognized by the Mid-America Economic Development Council (MAEDC) in its annual MAEDC Economic Development "The Best of the Midwest" awards ceremony held December 7, 2009. The Regional Partnership garnered six economic development marketing honors during this year's ceremony including four first place awards and two third place awards. Press Release

Thermafiber's mineral wool insulation has been selected as one of the top 10 products of 2009 by the editors of BuildingGreen publishing.  Now in its eighth year, BuildingGreen's award recognizes the most innovative and appealing green building products added to the firm's GreenSpec Product Directory or covered in Environmental Building News in the past year.  more

Region's Quality of Life Adds Accolade with Fort Wayne's No.1 Ranking
Fort Wayne ranked first among the nation's 100 largest cities for renter satisfaction in a survey, according to officials from ApartmentRatings.comThis ranking came after close to 900,000 apartment reviews for about 30,000 complexes nationwide were analyzed. There are 46 Fort Wayne complexes listed on the Web site. more

The Certified Technology Parks program was created as a tool to support the attraction and growth of high-technology business in Indiana and promote technology transfer opportunities. Designation as a Certified Tech Park allows for the local recapture of certain state and local tax revenue which can be invested in the development of the park. more

County Updates

ALLEN
Raytheon Company has received a $12.7 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense. The company says work will be performed at its Network Centric Systems facility in Fort Wayne. The contract calls for the procurement of 30 electronic modules for the Royal Australian Air Force aircraft under the Foreign Military Sales program. more 

DEKALB
City of Garrett recently received a $600,000 Community Focus Fund grant from the State of Indiana.  The grant was presented by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman during a ceremony held in Indianapolis.  

HUNTINGTON
HCUED recently hosted its 2009 Business Appreciation Luncheon where nine companies were recognized for their expansion, investment and job creation projects for 2009.  The nine companies represented nearly $34 million in new capital investment and over 450 new job commitments.

NOBLE
The Noble County Convention and Visitors Bureau has a new executive director. DeKalb County native John Bry was chosen by the bureau's board of directors from a large field of applicants. more 

STEUBEN
Industrial Steering Products, a manufacturing and engineering company, announced today that it will expand its production operations here through formation of a new business, Triton Metal Products, creating up to 111 new jobs by 2014. more
