Steuben tops in job attraction since 2005

ANGOLA - Steuben County is the top a performing county for attracting new jobs per capita in Indiana, a recently released report said.

The ranking was put out by the Indiana Economic Development Corp., a state agency created in 2005 by Gov. Mitch Daniels to replace the former Department of Commerce.

Since 2005, the Steuben County Economic Development Corp., teaming with IEDC, has worked with 18 businesses that have collectively committed to create nearly 700 new jobs and invest $23 million in their operations.

“Those new jobs divided by the county’s population makes Steuben County Indiana’s top performing county in attracting new jobs per county resident,” said Gary Nielander, SCEDC executive director. “Fueled by investments from Vestil, C&K Tool, New Horizons Baking Co. and others, Steuben County earned its place as the top performing county for attracting new jobs per capita since 2005.”

During the Indiana Economic Development Association conference held in September, the SCEDC was congratulated by IEDC director Nate Feltman for its success.

Noble County was ranked No. 3 for its job attraction efforts and DeKalb County was eighth.
