Parkview Huntington Hospital has been recognized by Thomson Reuters as a 100 Top Hospital award winner. Thomson Reuters recently released its annual study, which identifies the 100 top U.S. hospitals based on their overall organizational performance.

The Thomson Reuters "100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks" study evaluates performance in several areas:

  • Mortality
  • Medical complications
  • Patient safety
  • Average length of stay
  • Expenses
  • Profitability
  • Patient satisfaction
  • Adherence to clinical standards of care
  • Post-discharge mortality and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction, heart failure and pneumonia

The award signifies that an award-winning hospital is performing well against national standards. Its board, management, physicians, nurses and hospital employees work together to constantly measure, review and improve performance to make it an excellent place to receive care.

"We are pleased to be recognized as a leader in providing excellent health services," said Darlene Garrett, chief operating officer, Parkview Huntington Hospital. "Our medical staff and co-workers at Parkview Huntington Hospital work hard each and every day, and are committed to patient-centered care. Being mentioned as a 100 top hospital award winner is a great accomplishment for our staff and sends a positive message to our community."

"The PHH Board of Directors is proud to have Parkview Huntington Hospital receive this recognition," Rick Baker, Parkview Huntington Hospital Board Chairman, said. "This prestigious national award reinforces the continuing positive efforts of our outstanding staff and administration in providing excellent healthcare."

"We are proud of Parkview Huntington Hospital for being recognized as one of the top hospitals in the country," said Mike Packnett, president and CEO, Parkview Health. "Residents in Huntington County and surrounding communities are receiving the best care possible from our hospital staff. This is a great achievement as Parkview Huntington celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2010."

Parkview Huntington Hospital was one of six hospitals in Indiana to be recognized. Parkview Huntington Hospital was an award winner for Small Community Hospitals, 25-99 acute care beds. The award uses only statistical information to select the top performers, and the winners must perform well across many measures. Parkview Huntington Hospital was matched to similar hospitals before computing and comparing scores to choose the top performers. The Thomson Reuters study has been conducted annually since 1993.
