Press Release

The Huntington County Economic Development Corporation announced today that AreaDevelopment Site and Facility Planning Magazine, a Halcyon Business Publication Company, http://www.areadevelopment.com , has honored the State of Indiana as a recipient of one of Area Development Magazine's 2010 Silver Shovel Awards. The Onward Manufacturing Company project in Huntington, Indiana was a key contributing success story which led to the State's recognition.

Area Development Magazine asks each of the 50 States to submit information about their top-10 job creation projects during the prior year. One of Indiana's qualifying projects was the Onward Manufacturing Company investment in Huntington, with an estimated 302 new jobs anticipated to be created over the life of the project. This was the 6th largest project based on job creation in the State of Indiana during 2009 and was the only project on the State's top-10 list which involved the attraction of a new industry to the State for the very first time.

Onward Manufacturing Company, http://www.omcbbq.com, is based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and manufactures barbeque grills at its new plant in Huntington, Indiana. The 400,000 square foot Huntington plant opened in 2009.

"Huntington is very fortunate to have been selected by Onward Manufacturing Company for the location of their plant. They have made a very visible commitment to our Community. They are a wonderful corporate citizen," said Mark Wickersham, Executive Director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "It is always an honor to receive outside recognition of a job well done, but the fact is the employment opportunities and tax base being created in our Community by Onward Manufacturing, are the reason we are being noticed. I'm not really sure how to best say thank you to Onward Manufacturing and the local and State officials who worked with us as a team to help make this a reality," Wickersham added. "AreaDevelopment's recognition is an acknowledgement of the success which can result from a team effort," he concluded.
